JOIN’s Big Brother program provides social and academic mentoring for 40 youth from very poor, mostly dysfunctional immigrant families. They often lack healthy role models, face excessive pressure, and feel estranged and disrespected. The Big Brothers provide academic and emotional support to help these children manage and thrive academically, socially and behaviorally.

“We were never successful in establishing a positive connection to the school’s staff. They didn’t understand us, and we didn’t understand them. From the moment that the Big Brother came into the picture he became the one to communicate with the teacher and principal. He went over his homework and prepared him for his tests. The test scores and his behavior changed greatly for the better, both at home and in school.”
